In December 2020, Lallemand purchased Biotec BetaGlucans (BBG). Biotec BetaGlucans’ work on yeast beta-glucan activity has its roots in discoveries made at the University of Tromsø in Norway.

Two randomly-assigned groups of healthy Norwegian junior cross-country skiers were assessed over a 10-month period. One group consumed 400 mg of M-Gard® every day while the other group consumed a placebo every day. Any participants who became ill were examined by a doctor.
In the group taking M-Gard®, the reported number of sick days related to cold, flu and fever symptoms were reduced by 38.4% compared to the placebo group.
