VITAMINS, MINERALS AND OTHER INGREDIENTS FOR FOOD FORTIFICATION
Food fortification is the addition of vitamins and minerals to foods.
This practice is important to:
- replace nutrients lost during the manufacturing process
- support public health interventions
- ensure the nutritional equivalence of substitute foods
- ensure the appropriate vitamin and mineral nutrient composition of foods for special dietary purposes
Our Lalmin® mineral and vitamin yeasts are fermented, then inactivated whole cell yeast products containing standardized levels of specific minerals and/or vitamins. Lalmin® are produced either by enhancing and converting the natural endogenous vitamins of the yeast, or by supplementing the natural yeast fermentation with specific amounts of minerals and/or vitamins before inactivation. Lalmin® is primary grown baker’s yeast and is suitable for plant-based, gluten-free food fortification.
M-Gard® is a highly concentrated, minimum 80% bioactive beta-1,3/1,6-glucan, a naturally occurring complex polysaccharide found in the cell walls of baker’s yeast. Beta-1,3/1,6-glucan is known to naturally support the immune system. M-Gard® is suitable to add to all types of foods.
Gastro-AD® is a dietary food supplement, produced from the fermentation of soy by a proprietary probiotic strain, Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. delbrueckii (Rosell-187). Studies show very positive results for heartburn, gastrointestinal symptoms and heartburn-related quality of life indicators.
Copper helps to maintain connective tissue, protects DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative damage, and helps maintain normal functioning of the nervous system.
Yeast naturally converts ergosterol (endogenous to yeast) into ergocalciferol (vitamin D2). Vitamin D regulates calcium absorption and stimulates mineralization of bone and teeth. Deficiency is associated with cardiovascular disease, hypertension,stroke, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoporosis, periodontal disease, macular degeneration, asthma, mental illness, propensity to fall, and chronic pain.
Iron supports the formation of red blood cells and their ability to transport oxygen throughout the body, thereby reducing tiredness and fatigue and improving cognitive function.
Iodine is critical for normal thyroid hormone production, which directly affects energy metabolism. It is also important for normal functioning of the nervous system and cognitive processes.
Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance, affecting neurotransmission and muscle contraction, including heart muscle contraction. Adequate levels of magnesium are essential for the absorption and metabolism of vitamin D and calcium therefore supporting healthy bones and teeth.
Manganese is essentiel for maintenance of bones and connective tissue, and protects cells from oxidative stress.
Molybdenum contributes to normal sulphur amino acid metabolism (methionine, cysteine, homocysteine, and taurine).
Zinc supports maintenance of bone, skin, hair and nails. It strengthens the immune system and is important for normal vision and reproduction.
Studies have shown that M-Gard® exerts immunomodulatory effects in vitro and in vivo in experimental animal and human models. M-Gard® represents an excellent immune enhancing compound for human use.
